Common Name: this species doesn’t actually have a common name
Scientific Name: Cerogenes auricoma
Conservation Status: not yet assessed
I came across photos of these crazy-looking … things … today
and just had to find out more about it. It turns out that this
fuzzy-piece-of-carpet thing is actually an insect! Crazy! This species is a planthopper, which are insects related to cicadas (cicadas are my favorite bugs). This particular species is part of the family Fulgoridae, a group of insects known as “lantern flies.” Don’t believe the name though: these guys are definitely not related to flies!
